Development of Solar Passenger Vehicle and Charging station Project supported by Dassault Systemes Foundation –India with Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering

About Dassault Systemes Foundation :

The Dassault Systèmes Foundation provides grants, training and expertise about 3D virtual universe technologies to help schools, universities, research centres, museums and associations in Europe, the U.S. and India to push the limits of knowledge. Its mission is to inspire young people with a passion for engineering, science and digital technology to create a better and more collaborative society. As part of this mission, it actively contributes to inventing new ways of sharing know-how and transforming learning practices that make it possible to detect new talents and help them achieve their dreams.

Introduction to the Project :

Vehicular systems all over the world are set for a paradigm shift with the advent of Electric Mobility solutions. In unison with the Indian government’s launch of the E-Mobility programme envisioning 100% electric vehicles by 2030, Team Solarium at Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCoE) is more than thrilled to develop a solar powered four seated passenger vehicle sponsored by Dassault Systemes Foundation.

Design goals :

    • Solar Passenger Vehicle and Charging Station to be ‘The Referential / The Benchmark’ project globally
    • Create “Compelling Wow Effect” so that viewer is motivated to say “I want to buy it”
  • Goals
    • Develop 1+4-seater Passenger vehicle for ‘within the campus’ mobility
    • To develop aesthetically appealing, functionally complete vehicle which could be ‘Ready for Productisation’
    • Use technology and simulation tools for design & simulation
    • Develop Open Source/Referential design
  • Through this project a unique vehicle which can be run by solar photovoltaic power and lead acid battery using a 1 kW BLDC motor has been developed. The low cost yet striking exterior styling is the distinctive feature of this vehicle. A separate charging station has also been planned on PCCoE campus.

  • For the success of this project and noble cause, generous sponsorship is provided by Dassault Systemes Foundation in terms of funds. The student team at PCCoE was mentored by Mr. Hemant Gadgil, Mr Suhas Gongate, Mr Amandeep Singh, Mr Nikunj, Ms Pooja, Mr Zoeb Lakdawala and other members from Dassault Systemes, Pune. Team PCCoE is very thankful to Dassault Systemes Foundation for giving us this opportunity and extending their support and guidance.
  • Through development of Solar Passenger vehicle, students are able to learn and develop Future mobility solutions. This is project provides valuable contribution for the environment friendly and sustainable mobility solutions driven by green energy which is need of the hour for sustainable future. Through these project students have acquired advanced skills for development of such new vehicles which will help them to be ‘Future Ready Engineers’.
  • Starting from project management to product design and simulation, all features of the vehicle are being developed and simulated in advanced CAD tools - 3D experience. Students working on this project have learnt all these valuable tools which will take them one step ahead of others in being industry ready.

The Vehicle is currently being used as a within-the-campus mobility solution. The student team is currently working towards developing the Charging Station for the same.

TIFAC Project Internship


TIFAC MSME program leveraged the infrastructure, knowledgebase and technical human resource of the proximate academic and R&D Institutes towards providing R&D and technical support to MSMEs. The objectives of internship are:

  • Create a platform to establish interaction between academia and MSME industries.

  • Establishing a platform for the MSME cluster industries to access R&D and technical support leveraging the knowledge base of faculty and knowledgeable human resource.

  • Providing hands on engagement and practical experience to the students and faculty on existing technical challenges in the industry and nurturing an innovation ecosystem that benefits both the industry as well as the technical institution.

Shortlisted students are given stipend Rs.5000/- pm for two months to visit the MSME industry and identify the problem definitions in MSME industry. Three projects will be selected from the 30 shortlisted projects. Students will be given stipend of Rs.10, 000/- pm for six months and Rs.1, 00,000/- towards expenses incurred to manufacture the product / setup.
